The fast-evolving field of condensed matter physics is witnessing a rapid development of a new class of materials, called Dirac materials. The low-energy electronic excitation in these materials behaves like massless Dirac particles. These materials exhibit unique optoelectronic properties, and understanding of Dirac quasi-particles dynamics in two and three dimensions is imperative to realizing the potential applications.
In this presentation, I will discuss time-resolved optical techniques and measurements to study carrier dynamics in graphene and tantalum arsenide (TaAs), which respectively are 2D and 3D Dirac materials.
Mehdi Jadidi earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Physics from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2011, and a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, USA in 2016. He received the Distinguished Dissertation Award from UMD for his doctoral research work on “Plasmonic and Ultrafast Optical Response of 2D and 3D Dirac Materials”.
