ESiM Project Concludes After Four Years of Collaborative Research

Published on in ESIM NEWS

On March 31, 2026, the ESiM project officially came to an end, marking the conclusion of 48 months of collaborative research and innovation. Bringing together partners across Europe, the project advanced research at the interface of molecular engineering, quantum science, and nanoscale device development.

Key Achievements

  • Molecular design and synthesis: Development of molecular rotors and switches for energy pumping and storage, with a focus on vertical geometries and subphthalocyanine platforms.
  • Theoretical breakthrough: Demonstration that energy storage is governed by quantum entanglement between electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom.
  • Molecular dynamics: Observation of thermally driven rotation in molecular assemblies and porous networks.
  • Prototype device: Creation of a mica micro-cantilever system capable of storing and releasing energy via an active molecular layer.

Outlook

ESiM results will be reviewed by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) and external experts at the end of May 2026 in Toulouse.

The project leaves behind strong scientific results and a foundation for future work in molecular energy systems.
